Does Anyone Have Fishing Pet Peeves They’d Like To Share?

Posted on 28 February 2010 by admin

Ok, I have quite a few, but will just share some that piss me off.
1. Now, i know i’ll sound really selfish saying this, but i HATE it when some 5 year old kid comes up to me, thinking he’s the **** and just hanging around me, messing with my hooks and bugging me with questions when he should be with his dad. Really? just because you’re young doesn’t mean you can’t do anything wrong. just go away.
2. When bass throw my lures out of their mouths. I do you guys the courtesy of unbarbing my hooks and releasing you quick. just let me get a picture please.
3. When people ask me over and over for bait. I’m more than willing to share a worm or 2 with you, give you some senkos or sell you a rapala, but when I give you 1/4 my powerbait nuggets, just don’t ask for more. especially when i can see a few unused ones lying around your chair.
4. When my lures fly off because my clinch knot killed itself. Yup, gotta hate the friction that comes from a crappily tied clinch. And i hate licking it because what if i die of some weird waterbourne disease? but i pay the price every few hundred casts when a 1/2 ounce spinnerbait just snaps the line, flies half a mile and hits some lady in the face.
as you can tell, i’m a very angry person.

bass fishermen. Who do they think they are?

  2. Adam S Says:

    1. People using terrible fishing lingo. It’s line people, not string or wire or rope.
    2. People using my stuff. I once lost 4 rattle traps to the same person within 2 hours.
    3. Inexperienced people out fishing me. I consider myself a good bass fisherman, but to get beat by someone who almost never fishes is a real bummer.

  3. Bass Fishin' B I T C H Says:

Idiots are my number one Peeve. Just plain idiots.
And people that use barbless hooks and whine about when the fish throws it.

  4. thresher Says:

Mine is not being able to fish as much as before or as often.

  5. Janet Says:

    youre weird

  6. Scottie Says:

doooo-hooood… slow down. your going to drive yourself to an early grave. fishing is about relaaaaaaaxing. so relax.
    1. I don’t like little kids that disturb the fishin… throwing rocks and stuff… but be cool help the little tikes cuz they are the next gen of fishermen.
    2. barbless hooks for bass? i dont know about that. bass are tough and can take barbs…
    3. just say no, man! tell em you havent got enough for the whole lake!!!
4 – hey dude, you don’t have to spit! you at the *water* just get some water on the knot.
my pet peeve is LITTER and JUNK and FISHING LINE on the banks.
    [PS good question!!]

  7. gimmenam Says:

    *laughs at Ski Bum’s answer*
Good one… I gotta agree… I worked for one for a while… always got on my case about how I didn’t have a “real” boat… freakin’ bass fishermen… they are full of themselves…
    ……………..
There’s so many… where to begin?
Ah, yes, I realize that we’re all out trying to enjoy our time on the water, but if I wanted to listen to your music, I’d be sitting over there with you, not over here by myself where it was QUIET before you pulled up five minutes after I started hearing the bass from your car… how do you think you’re going to catch any fish when you’re making that much racket?
And what’s up with people who won’t share their bait? I’m saving that powerbait by my chair for later when you leave and I don’t have anyone to bum bait off of.
And what about stupid undersized mangrove snapper that swarm your bait like they’re pirahnas or something but never give the satisfaction of landing one?
Actually my biggest one is the trash that people leave behind… it drives me nuts.

  8. Yammie Says:

    Hmm…Let’s see
    1. Kids in general piss me off when it comes to fishing because they are so disrespectful as they trudge and kick through the water when you are stream fishing…
    2. When your line gets tangled and it’s one big horrible mess!
    3. When your Fiance gets pissed at you because you are out fishing him – then you have to listen to him whine and ***** for the next 2 hours! LOL
    4. Litter and/or fishing line lying around (tripping and getting caught in it) as well as cut line in the water that you get caught in while reeling in.
    5. When you really really really want to go fishing but you have to work instead!

  9. zach Says:

My worst pet peeve is having bad gear that costs you more than the good stuff would have. My # 1 fishing piss off has only happened once. I have been fishing all my life but got serious about it a few years ago. i wanted to learn a specific lake for a specific time of year so i got a guide. we went out in the morning and i learned how to Baitcast and caught fish. in the afternoon i went out with my brothers and fished the same places but with s h i t y y zebco 33s. we decided to stop at a deep bank where the guide didnt fish but it fit the profile. i cast my texas lizard and reeled it in when it stopped. i said dammit im hung up and turnd the boat around when she jumped. at least 7.5 lbs, probably 8 or more i managed to get her within 5 ft of the boat when the reel broke… it just died and then she saw the boat, turned, and since the reel was dead the grag didnt work and i watched “Lincoln” swim away unharmed……. i almost cried and never fished again withthat type of reel

  10. go muskie or go home! Says:

1 pleasure cruiser’s that drive 10ft from ya
#2 water skier’s that fly by when your fishing in a no wake zone
#3 people who anchor 20ft infront of you, when they can see your heading that way.
#4 pleasure cruiser’s that cruse no wakes zones
#5 people that see you catching and anchor 10ft from you
#6 pleasure cruiser’s (did i say that one already)
#7 DNR wasting your time with there B.S.
#8 bait shop owners that try to con you into buying stuff (o there nailing on these)
#9 casting off muskie lures (thats a real ball breaker at $15 or more a pop)
otherwise i’m pretty happy just being out fishing

  11. 210.KYLE Says:

your #1 is annoying to me as well but that doesn’t happen often. When it does i give the kid a worm and he takes it away and bugs his dad.
It kinda bugs me when i hook a bass and it wont stop squirming and i end up hooking myself. Its like damn im trying to get you back in the lake..
Number 3: anyone i dont know can have a worm or 2 and if they get greedy they can *** off. And anyone i went with can use my crap. but most of the time its just me and my dad so thats no problem.
And number 4, i lost 3 pretty good lures because of line frayed or something like that. it just “grinds my gears”

  12. jtexas Says:

First, I developed a knot six years ago and haven’t used anything else for monofilament since:http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?…
Beats improved clinch for strength hands down.
    Pet peeves:
    1. people motoring right up into the middle of a school of surfacing fish where several boats are catching on every cast, then wonder “why do they always stop biting just when we get here?”
    2. people trolling within casting distance of your boat.
    3. people blasting through the no-wake zone under the bridge.
    4. wake-board boats.
    5. people blocking the ramp while prepping for launch.
    6. catch & release nazis. if licensed fishermen taking a legal limit are threatening a fishery, the limits need revision.
    7. people taking game fish of all sizes with cast nets (seen it happen).
    8. the guy I saw at dusk blasting out the marina, bouncing across rough water on a jetski while wearing a PFD, with a girl on the back seat without a PFD.
    .

  13. Artie Says:

Yeah if you are an angler there are a few not worth remembering but you do. I like most the answers and relate somehow fully to most of them, but, I really only have one:
It’s not the time on the water or the kids it’s never losing a bait for any one reason or another or even breaking a good rod or having a favorite reel explode into pieces causing you to loose a fish worth its weight in fillets. I hate that so many arrogant “I am the only person in the world” attitudes and so ” I ” am going to ask this question here on Answers whether it’s been asked before or not. and I refuse any more to answer the obvious bugar eaters questions, especially “What’s the best bass bait?” too bad we can’t eliminate the idiots Yahoo I D based on principle

  14. justfishingtips.com Says:

When someone comes over and sees you fishing and asks if they can try casting. “Yeah sure I know how it works…” They cast, the spool gets tangled, and they hand it back like its your fault. Ahhhh…
